The theater company, All Queer Shakespeare's Globe Theater-Trained Actor Monica Sampson
Sampson a plus-sized queer, Jewish woman, recognized that the foundational elements of Shakespeare were written to engage all types of people, regardless of class, gender or social status, to come and spend an afternoon enveloped by theater.
Shakespeare wrote for a very diverse audience, writing about human experiences; took jokes, prostitutes, and Parliament. In contrast, Sampson discovered throughout her works on state, that she and other queer folks were often left out of telling stories with queer original and elements. High class and low brow stories about people's real experiences.
Shakespeare's works were made for the people, and Sampson saw a lack of the people in her own life represented on stage. Sampson believed a great theater had to be created, one that had Drag Queens and Kings, people of all shapes, sizes and colors playing love interest's, hero's and villain's.
All Queer Shakespeare was born as a diverse and inclusive theater company.
Our Mission:
All Queer Shakespeare's Mission is telling traditional stories in a non-traditional way.
Recognizing the foundational elements of Shakespeare's works, which explores gender, class and sexuality.
All Queer Shakespeare aims to appreciate the traditional origins of Shakespeare while providing opportunities for marginalized groups who have been traditionally passed over the limelight of center stage due to skin color, religion, race, sexuality, gender, and more.
At the the forefront of what we do, All Queer Shakespeare's focus will be on illuminating Queer Stories.
